2 Gun

Two gun is a form of competition in which participants fire at a variety of targets as they navigate dynamic courses using a combination of rifle and handgun skills. Challenges include firing and maneuvering around, through and underneath various obstacles such as barricades, walls, windows and doors. The competition rewards accuracy as well as speed. Participants are challenged to push themselves to be fast without sacrificing accuracy as they fire from challenging positions.

A shooter will be observed as they proceed through the course by a range safety officer who is keeping time. Additional range safety officers will be available to answer questions and ensure safety while participants enjoy the competition.

Events will take place every fortnight beginning on the first Thursday of June and proceeding through the last Thursday of August. Sign in for matches will begin at 5:45 pm with the event starting at 6pm going until 8pm. Each event will have three stages: a handgun only, rifle only and handgun plus rifle stage. Shooters may choose to participate in 1, 2 or all 3 stages prior to each individual event. Pistol-only and rifle-only stages will come at the cost of $10 each, pistol and rifle stage (true 2 gun) will cost $15. For example a shooter may choose to only do the pistol-only stage the first event ($10) and all three stages on the second event ($35).

For rifle stages a shooter must have a semi-auto rifle , two 20-30 round magazines, a magazine pouch and rifle sling. Rifles may range in a “power factor” between 223 Remington to 308 Winchester. Common examples include AR15s, AKs, or AR10s. There are no restrictions on barrel length for rifles used. Rifle triggers may not have a pull weight less than 3.5 pounds as these courses will involve firing and maneuvering.

Pistol caliber carbines (PPCs) may be used during rifle stages, but will be scored as their own category. The equipment requirements for rifles apply for PCCs.

A pistol stage will require two or more 10+ round magazines, a magazine pouch, a holster and a semi-automatic pistol ranging from a “power factor” of 30 super-carry to 10mm. Common calibers include 9mm, 40S&W and 45 ACP. Holsters must be made of leather or kydex. They may be IWB or IWB and must at least have level one retention. Pocket holsters are not allowed as Range Safety Officers must be able to see all firearms if not cleared and cased. Nylon holsters are also not allowed.

A mandatory safety orientation meeting will be held for members on Thursday, May 30th @ 7pm in the SMSC main club house. This meeting will also go through in detail how to register for each match and how to pay the match fee prior to each event.

Registration is free as shooters will pay prior to each event. Match sign up links will be sent a week ahead of each match so shooters can select their stages. Shooters who want to register for the league must contact Chris Rice at 2gun@smsclub.org with their name and email info with the subject line: “Registering for Rochester 2-Gun”. This will enable participants to receive the match sign up link to each event by email.
